Additional Metadata Support for Entries
Metadata is the data that provides additional information about an entry. This metadata aids entry management and classification.
When you create a new entry, Contentstack adds some basic metadata by default, such as:
- Name of the entry
- Localization status of the entry
- Publishing status of the entry
- Last modification date and time of the entry
- Content types in which the entry has been referenced
However, with constantly growing content requirements, you may need to add customized metadata for efficient content management.
This is where “Additional Metadata Support” comes into play.
Contentstack lets you add additional, custom metadata to your entries (via the API) without incrementing their versions. Additional metadata helps content managers facilitate better organization or categorization of entries for taxonomy purposes. It becomes easier to search for a specific entry in the content type with customized metadata.
Note: Whenever you create metadata for an entry using the API, you need to specify the extension to which it will be connected. The metadata size allowed per extension per entry/asset is 5KB. Please get in touch with our support team for any queries.
You can add additional entry metadata only via API (not through the UI), using the Metadata Content Management API requests.
Some examples of additional metadata that you can add are:
- Entry type (parent entry or referenced entry)
- Owner details for an entry
- Generic SEO tags
- Entry categorization details for taxonomy purposes
- Custom entry tags or labels
Additional Resource: Contentstack also allows you to add custom metadata for your assets. Refer to the Additional Metadata Support for Assets documentation to learn more about it.
This is a plan-based feature and may not be available to everyone. For more information, you can reach out to our support team.
